Honda was born in Hamamatsu,  Shizuoka, Japan about November 18, 1906. He spent his early child years helping his father, Gihei, a blacksmith, with his bike repair business. At the time his mother, Mika, was a weaver. At 12-15, without any formal education, Honda left house and headed to Tokyo to seek out work. He obtained an apprenticeship in a storage area in 1922, and after several hesitation over his career, he remained for six years, working as a car mechanic prior to returning home to start his own automobile repair business in 1928 at the age of 22.
